Working Essential Question

The Pentagon:

(1) Positive Statement: What positive things happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

     - From what I have done up until now, I have gotten a further in-depth view of what truly goes on behind closed doors to a political campaign. Before I just had thought it was mostly run by volunteers and nothing else. I have learned that there are ways of running a campaign that will prove successful in the end. i have yet more to learn and I will continue to do so throughout the year. I am excited for what is yet to come.

(2) EQ Content: Pick a piece of research or your interview. How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

     - In my research I have found out that like everything else its not easy, it takes time and patience to get to the end result. In this case its public office. If a candidate wanted to get ahead of everyone else he/she would have to jump on the idea at least a year before the actual election that way the candidate can begin gathering funds, create a team that will benefit the candidate, begin talking to constituents, and other important factors that will potentially help the candidate win the election.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?
     - So far what has worked for me in doing my senior project has been the fact that I have been able to find research. Hopefully, throughout the year research keeps coming in without a problem.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

     - Well I would not say that. I have everything needed but I feel that if I get another mentor or somewhere where I can do service learning other than me original mentor, it might give me a deeper insight of my topic.

(5) Finding Value: Based on your experience so far,

  • What possible question or questions come to mind regarding what you would like to study this year (Don't list questions about the instructions relating to the senior project)?
One question that does come to mind for me is:

     - Am I as an individual ready to pursue a career that will constantly be examined under the public spotlight?

Politics is a career choice that most people tend to stay away from or rather not deal with it at all period. It is a career choice that binds you to the job for life. Once you start there is no turning back, there will always be something for you to do once you have left. Politicians are constantly being examined for what they do, say, or support. This is all examined through the public spotlight that will always shine down on those who want to serve in public office. The spotlight in which each individual politician is observed under is very critical, a wrong step and that's it for you. You have just ruined everything for yourself. It is a long and delicate process for someone who chooses this career choice.

  • What is your end goal this year with your senior project (don't say get a good grade or gain knowledge, put specific things you want to accomplish in your senior project this year).
     - Well first off, ever since I started at iPoly I always saw senior project as a tool to help you research a career option that you had. The topic that you chose is something you can see yourself doing in years to come. I have always been fond of Washington DC, our form of government, our resolve on foreign affairs, and our rich history. I just want to make sure that by doing my senior project on something that I am passionate about can reinforce my choice of following a career in politics.

  • Who would you like to talk to next? Why?
     - The person I would like to talk to next would have to be someone that is higher up, in the political ladder. A mayor of a city, a professor in political science or a professor relating to politics. That is my best bet in terms of who I would like to talk to next. By getting someone else other than my mentor I feel that it could potentially give me a different perspective of my overall senior project topic.
